Table 3 below shows a number of logo images extracted from tool photographs, trademark filings, or published sources. In some cases these are also registered trademarks (as noted in the table), but in general the logos are simply informal marks chosen by the manufacturer to identify their tools.
The "Shorthand" column shows the names we've assigned for convenience of reference, which have been chosen carefully to allow the logo images to be found easily using an index search. Most logos consist of one or more letters in a geometric outline or other recognizable shape, and our naming convention tags the image with XYZ-Outline, where "XYZ" are the observed letters, and Outline is the enclosing shape. (If there's no obvious outline, we have appended "-Logo" to the letters.)
The "Company" column will generally identify the company using the logo and link to our article for the company. Logos for unknown forge-marks or tools from unknown makers will point to a section where we've gathered whatever information is available.
In a few cases "Multiple Uses" will appear instead of a specific company name, indicating that the same (or nearly identical) logo was used by multiple companies. For these cases the site index under "Logo Images" will have links to the "Tool Identification" sections of the companies known to use the mark.
Certain logos are identified in the table as "Forge Marks", meaning that they appear as a raised symbol on a forged piece, having been incised into the forging die. These marks were often used on contract manufacturing production to identify the maker.
Our intention is that this table of logo images (along with the tables of trademarks and brands) should be sufficient to identify the tools made by any of the companies noted on this site, within the scope of our coverage. If any of our readers have found additional logos that should be added, please let us know via email.
If you're trying to identify an unknown logo, it may be faster to use an index search rather than looking through all of the images. Try entering the observed letters followed by a dash and the outline shape in the search box. (Popular outlines are Triangle, Diamond, Hex, Oval, and Circle, plus Shield and Horseshoe.)
If you're not sure of the order of the letters, a search for the outline shape followed by "image" will show all logos with that outline. For example, searching for "circle image" will show all of the logos with text in a circle.
